How can you tell if your car needs an oil change?

if its been 3,000 miles since your last oil change or 3 months after your last oil change for some vehicles. i believe newer cars can go longer on synthetic oil. you can always check your oil dipstick and if the oil is very dark you should have you oil changed.if your car has a change oil light on the console it should come on when you need to change the oil.How can you tell if your car needs an oil change?
If you travel most of your miles on the open highway in a short period of time new modern cars recommend 5,000 - 8,500 mile oil changes. If your trips mainly are around town with a few high speed long trips do not exceed 5,000 miles. The handbook in your glove compartment will give you all the necessary information.

No car manufactures today recommend 3,000 mile oil changes. Fast sloppy oil change joints do however as they are in the business of selling motor oil and filters at an inflated rate. How can you tell if your car needs an oil change?
If your not sure when it was last changed, you should change it to be on the safe side. There are tests you can do for the oil, but it's cheaper just to swap it out for new. Also, don't use any fancy engine oil additives. Use better quality oil like synthetic or semi-synthetic.
Check the oil, if it's low add oil, and if it looks dark brown, it's time for an oil change.
Your oil should be changed every 3-5 thousand miles. So if you have not kept track of the mileage I would say if its been more than 4 months get it changed.
If it feels like its dragging then you need oil or get under the hood and check the oil stick
every 3 month
