Car oil change: every three months or 3000 miles? Which one?

The correct answer to this is there is no ONE correct answer. There are things you should know, however. The type of oil you use factors into how often you should change it. Also, the weather, driving conditions, age of the vehicle and type of engine. I have a 2003 BMW and per their recommendation, the oil is changed ONCE about every 10,000mi! I have had the car for 3 years and have had three oil changes. The engine in the BMW is an efficient, high performance engine. So there is no wasted oil performance whatsoever!Car oil change: every three months or 3000 miles? Which one?
To be on the safe side, i would change every 3000 miles, using regular oil, if you are using synthetic, go to 7000, but change the filter at 3500Car oil change: every three months or 3000 miles? Which one?
I would go with 3000 mi. because some people drive more miles than others in three months.
Actually, the standard rule is depending on which comes first. After 3000 miles automatically change it if it hasn't been 3 months. If three months pass, but you haven't driven 3,000 miles, get it changed.
Oil companys use this 3,000 miles or 3 months gimmick to do one thing, make more money. I do have to say 3,000 miles fits into short trippers where the oil never gets up to temp much. I'd go no more then 5,000 on a good conventional like pennzoil with a oil analysis or something.... but mind you... with gm's oil monitor..... some have gotten over 10,000 on conventional havoline, had a oil analysis done and the oil did great.
Whichever comes first!
which ever comes first...
oil change every spring and fall !!!!
depends on your driving. I would check the oil, if it's dirty it needs chaining. I would also check the owners manual, newer cars do not need the oil changed as often. My car needs oil changes every 7000 miles. A lot of oil changing places try to make you believe you need an oil change more than you really need. The best as I said, check to see if the oil is dirty. Hope this helps.
No oil could deteriorate in three months. The old rule that has not failed me in fifty years is oil at 2500 intervals as shown on the speedo, like 12250, 15000. 17500, 20000 and at the 15000, 20000, 25000 do the oil filter as well. If you live in a very dusty area change the AIR filter every 1000 miles. Trust me on this.
depends on how much you drive your vehicle. If you drive it alot, then every three months. If you do not, then you can get by with every 3000.
Depends what your driving involves. Usually highway miles don't bother oil too much. So if you do alot of highway driving I'd use ever three months. It's the city stop and go traffic that kills oil. Even then if you let your car warm up first the oil will last longer.

With today's technology both with engines and the oil, you can drive more miles and be fine. They say 3000 miles so you will spend more money and make for more fossil fuel waste. Oil over time does break down and it does lose its lubricating and cooling qualities, but I can tell you 3000 miles will just change the color of your oil. If you are driving you car periodically I would go to at least 5000 miles. Dont worry about the months factor, because as long as your turning the engine over once a week, that will keep the engine parts lubricated and the oil from sitting.
I used to be a messenger and drove up to 300 miles or more at day. I got a new Toyota Tacoma 1997 and I changed the oil every 6000 miles according to this article in Los Angeles Times. My truck odometer was over 450,000 miles when I sold it.
