Go to an auto parts store like murray's, oreilly's, autozone. Tell them you're doing an oil change and you need to know how many quarts of oil you need and what oil filter you'll need. They'll look up your vehicles information on their computer and tell you what you need so make sure you know the year, make, model, and engine size of your car. When it comes to type of oil most cars use 5W-30.If I want to give my car a oil change what will I need to buy?
An oil-filter to replace the old one %26amp; a gallon (about 4-5 litres) of multi-grade (15w-40w) synthetic engine oil, you might need an extra pint in a can for top-up, check out the amount of oil you need.

Warm up the engine first before draining the oil to get the slug out. If you don't know what size your drain-plug is, get an adjustable ring-wrench, normally the plug size is a 3/4'; (17mm) nut, don't use an adjust open-jaw spanner... it slip %26amp; damage the plug, wrap the threading with some plumbing tape when you replace it, be careful not to loose the sealing ring or cross the threading, 'cos that'll give you a leak. If you don't have a belt-wrench for the oil-filter, just punch thru' with a long, sturdy screw-driver to turn it loose. Wet the rubber seal on both surfaces the new filter with oil %26amp; carefully screw it back on, hand-tightening it.

Refill the engine oil to the full marking on the dip-stick %26amp; run it for a few minutes, stop engine to check oil level %26amp; top-up to the mark. Your oil level in a cold engine should be somewhere between the high %26amp; low mark, don't over-fill or you'll have excessive oil pressure.
catch pan filter wrench five or so quarts of oil and a filter any parts store can set you up and you also need a wrench to remove oil drain plug with everything you need to do the job just tell them you want to do a oil change but have nothing tell them what kind of car and they will set you up.. so many things one can do at home to save money and keep the car in shape here a site that will help in many ways sometime you need to word the question right to get a bout how its done and sometimes even a video of how its done here and u tube have a few
The oil and an oil filter typically but you need to be sure that you are dumping the old oil in the proper manner . That can be a fine or harm to the environment if you just try to get rid of that via a sewer grate or in the drain in your driveway if you do it there and have one as well.
Motor oil--however many quarts it needs. An oil filter. And if you don't have one, a wrench to get the filter off and a ratchet and a socket that fits the drain plug.
