How often should I change the oil in my car?

The dealer tells you every 3000 miles but is that really the truth? How often should I change the oil in my car?
It really depends on what type of driving you do and what climate you live in, if you do nothing but highway driving in Arizona, 7500 miles or 6 months is acceptable, but if the car is subjected to stop and go traffic, repeated short trips (under 3 miles) or freezing temperatures 3500 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. Reason being that every time you shut the car off the unburnt fuel in the cylinders drips into the crankcase %26amp; into the oil. It will not cause the oil to loose it's lubrcating abilities, but it will brake down the additives that hold the engine damaging dirt and debris in suspension and away from critical engine components that you do not want to wear out prematurely.

Hope this not only answeres your question but explains why.How often should I change the oil in my car?
3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. Also depends on whether you get regular oil or synthetic. Synthetic is supposed to last up to 6000 miles.
Unless your car's owner's manual says different, change the oil every 3,000 miles, just like the dealer says.
Every 3 months or 3000 miles
Depends upon the driving you do, idling time etc... But oil is recommended to be changed at roughly every 200 hours of engine operation when the additive packages in oil starts to break down, which for most works out to be roughly 3,000 miles...

But the manufacturers , with the oils out now are trying to extend that.... I know Ford recommends 5,000 miles normal and 3,000 for extensive idling/towing right now
You should do it at whatever time interval is stated in your owners manual. New oils with the GF-4 rating are really clean oils. They are recommending closer to 5000-7500 miles for oil changes. As far as the dealer wanting to sell you oil changes I dont think that is the case. The dealership is in the business to sell you cars. So if you change you oil every 3000 miles for instance your engine will last longer than if you change it every 10000 miles. I think that a dealership makes alot more money on a new car than changing oil. If they had it their way they would tell you to never change the oil that way you would buy a car every year.
3000 miles. If you're anal like me, you'd do it every 2500 miles. I prefer this way, because every 4 oil changes is 10,000 miles. Not to mention it's better for the engine.
I was told 3 months or 3000 miles. I go to which ever happens last, but I'm busy, so it's my last concern. Probably not a good thing, but sh*t happens.
The dealer wants to sell oil changes. Many manuals now say 7500 miles. What I do is ignore the miles and change it every 6 months. I've been doing that for 40 years.
definitely change the oil every 3000 miles. vehicles oil can sludge and loose viscosity (slipperiness) is left in longer. i have had many engines apart and you can tell when maintained properly. synthetic oils last longer, sometimes 10000 miles. but i have never used them. have never seen specific examples of if they can really last that long. the oil changes are VERY expensive, also. owners manuals are starting to say7500 miles, but that is mostly so they can claim reduced emission levels for government statistics. every 3000 miles and you won't have to worry
Yes 3000 miles! It will help your car engine last longer. It also helps with the wear and tear on your engine. Your car will probably last longer.
