Do we really need to have a car maintenance every 15K miles? Is oil change not enough every 5k miles?

I find it very expensive to have this. The more mileage you have the more you're going to pay. My car is already 60K miles, and as far as I know, it's going to cost me $700. My car is an Acura RSX 2002Do we really need to have a car maintenance every 15K miles? Is oil change not enough every 5k miles?
For a 60k service that is a lot of money. If the shop is trying to sell you a timing belt, that is wrong. it is not needed till 100,000 miles. your 60k service should include the following.

oil and filter change,transmission service

coolant service

check all belts and hoses, check brakes, rotate tires, top off all fluids, replace fuel filter and air filter, replace cabin filter if equipped.

I am guessing that is a dealership price?

If you go to an independent shop it should cost no more than $350 to $400

Here are two tips, assuming that you don't want to do work yourself. It would also help us if you said ';for 700 dollars they are going to do x to my car';.

1. Don't buy the ';30k/60k/90k packages'; that dealerships and shops recommend. They are full of it and are trying to rip you off. Open up your owners manual and get the services that it recommends. Often times the dealerships are recommending services way above and beyond what the manufacturer recommends. Lots of times they package a simple oil change and trans fluid change with a 100 point inspection, fluid top off, car wash, this and that...but if you just got the oil and trans done it would be half the price. A real mechanic will do inspections for free during routine work like an oil change, usually without you even having to ask.

2. Go to a reputable independent garage instead of a chain or dealership. Tell them what you want done, and if they recommend other services ask them if it is really neccesary. Lots of times dealerships will employ high school kids to do the simple work like oil changes. Independent garages usually do such work themselves.
there is more to keeping up a c ar than just the oil, because i do not have a maintenance schedule in front of me i can not tell you what is due at 15,000 miles, but it is worth the investment.
The reason they charge so much is because they know you'll pay it because you can't do it yourself.

Oil changes with conventional oil can last 15k miles. I wouldn't go over 10k on synthetic but I have a sports car and I have and it hasn't hurt performance at all. Probably want to change the plugs every 15k at least. And for flushing the fluids I'd say you should do that every 20k for both brake and coolant.

Find out what they do then see an ordinary mechanic because you're out of warranty anyway.
maintenance is what keeps your car on the road when and if you does it depends on it.. most of it can be done at home by you
